Rainy Days & Mondays

Ok, so the game actually took place on Saturday, but since today is Monday, I thought I'd go with it.

In case you hadn't heard, we've been pretty busy building an ark down here to survive the flash flooding we've been having. It caused us to have to postpone one of Noah's games last weekend so they played it on Friday night, and almost caused us to have to postpone his regular game on Saturday, but the powers that be decided, "Hey... what's a little rain?" and let them play anyway.

I'm glad he's wearing dark pants this season because it's a nightmare getting red clay out of white (and gray) baseball pants. It usually involves some very caustic chemicals and a lot of burnt nasal passages and hacking. Honestly, "Iron Out" is some pretty nasty stuff, but it works.

So, as is typical this season, Noah played first base. He pitched the night before and was supposed to pitch again on Sunday, so he didn't get to pitch this time around.

And, as is typical, he spent half the game chewing on his glove. This is why we try to keep a steady supply of Big League Chew on hand for him. He can't seem to concentrate unless he has something in his mouth. *makes a mental note to do room sweeps looking for cigarettes when he's a teenager*

See David.

See David run.

Run David, run. (He's going to help the umpire with the catcher's gear, which keeps slipping.)

The rag in his hand is for the balls... they keep having to wipe them off every few pitches because they pick up mud and water. Note the puddle at the bottom of the picture... several kids discovered it a few minutes later. I was glad I wasn't their parent.

Did I mention the mud? It wasn't as bad as the year Rhya and I went caving, but it wasn't fun, either.

And neither was sitting on our soaked-thru towels on the wet, metal bleachers under one tiny pink (and deformed) umbrella while trying to stave off the constant drizzle.

Ironically, we were supposed to play in a travel ball tournament on Sunday... it was cancelled due to the wet fields.

It was also perfectly sunny and hot all day on Sunday. Go figure.
