Noah's team, the Blue Jays, made the playoffs. They ended the season 7-5 and have their first playoff game on Saturday at 2:45. Then they're going to Stars & Strikes for their team party and laser tag.
Noah got to pitch in his first game ever last Friday night. They put him in during the last inning, after his teammate had walked three batters. So the bases were loaded, we were tied 4-4, and we had no outs ... no pressure, right? *rolls eyes*
When he walked up to the mound, everyone was commenting on how happy he looked to be pitching. Zach's mom said he was glowing. Samuel's mom pointed out how David was pacing next to the fence. (He did look pretty cute pacing back and forth... he was so nervous.)
Noah took a few practice pitches with Coach Dave, one of which was hard enough to make him look over at David with wide eyes... I know... I was watching.
The batter stepped up to the plate...
First pitch - STRIKE! Parents clapped and hooted for him.
Second pitch - STRIKE! Parents clapped, hooted, and stomped.
Third pitch - STRIKE! YOUR OUT! Parents clapped, hooted, stomped, and jumped up and down. My cheeks hurt from grinning so big. And David was wearing a groove in the dirt next to the fence.
It was my proudest moment as as baseball mom so far.
He walked the second batter, and they lost the game, which made him mad enough to cry... but everyone was great and came up to him after the game to tell him what a great job he did.
I was just proud that he got in there and didn't let the pressure get to him. He could have tensed up, pitched wild, gotten mad at himself... a whole host of things. But he didn't. He got in there and pitched three beautiful strikes.
He most definitely gets that from his dad... being great under pressure. I suck at it, no two ways about it.
It's times like this I get little glimpses of his future... of how he'll be great at whatever he decides to do because to him, failure is not an option. It's one of the traits that David has that I love the most. When he sets his mind to something, he gets it done, no matter what it is, how hard it is, or how long it takes.
It helps ease my mom-worry just a little bit...
